GOP Death Spiral Alert?

Possibily. If the Inmates taken already taken over the asylum, that is.

Wingnuts and assorted other ideologues have definitely infiltrated the GOP at the Federal level. Example See Eric Cantor (R-VA) and Mike Pence (R-IN).  But is the same true at the State level?

Let’s check in with the Legislature in the Great State of Missouri:

JEFFERSON CITY — State Rep. Bryan Stevenson set off a firestorm in the House today when he said any attempt by the federal government to undo state laws restricting abortion would be "the greatest power grab" since the North declared war on the South to end slavery.

“What we are dealing with today is the greatest power grab by the federal government since the war of northern aggression,” Stevenson said, R-Webb City, referring what Southern states called the North's attempt to end slavery in the 1860s.

The remark caused a sudden gasp heard throughout the House's chamber.

[…]

Stevenson, who represents parts of Jasper County and is considering a bid for Congress if the 7th District seat becomes open in 2010, later apologized on the House floor, saying he was sorry "for any offense that my earlier comment made." (emphasis – mine)

I take it that the GOP Bench is not that strong if this guy has a legitimate shot at the 7th District Congressional Seat.

Such an occurrence may mean that the GOP is past the point of no return.

He's Probably got the hang of it by now. So give'em another chance. And with the Supreme Court and the good Lord on his side, why not give it a try. Write in Bush.
