Mission Accomplished Minus the Aircraft Carrier

Quote of the Day via Balloon Juice:

Multiple news outlets are reporting that the United States military killed that motherfucker—and on the anniversary of Bush’s famed “Mission Accomplished” photo op.

Not a bad week for our Kenyan-in-Chief.

It was about time.

I am generally skeptical about the ongoing nation building in Iraq (though this is winding down), Libya and Afghanistan. Mesopotamia was never going to be remade into the democratic paradise known as Mississippi on our time schedule. The Same is True with the other theaters. As the Burkeans would say (unless they are promoting war): things are the way they are for a reason – don’t mess with it. But it looks like Obama’s strategy to stabilize Pakistan by occupying Afghanistan has paid at least some dividends.

  1. I've been thinking about the timing to bring all the various threads of this together. The resulting synchronized pant-shitting on the part of all the GOP hopefuls and a certain general is just delightful. My take is that the location was known for awhile and it was a matter of choosing the right date. It certainly explains the timing of switching Panetta and Pretraus. I'll bet that Pretraus was not on the need to know list. If that is true, Pretraus has no one to blame but himself. Just goes to show that you shouldn't go claiming credit that doesn't properly belong to you. That and trying to force your boss into your preferred policy choices.

He's Probably got the hang of it by now. So give'em another chance. And with the Supreme Court and the good Lord on his side, why not give it a try. Write in Bush.
