Quote of the Day II:
"I wouldn't say we're losing the communications battle -- but we have a great communications challenge"
~ Rep. Paul Ryan (R-WI) on Foxnews explaining why Phasing out Medicare is a hard sell
That’s an understatement. Ryan’s plan to replace guaranteed coverage under Medicare with a Health Insurance Voucher (or coupon) which may not be enough to pay for the coverage folks need was bound to scare voters. Then using the money saved by cutting Medicaid and replacing Medicare with this privatization scheme to pay for Tax Cuts for millionaires is down right stupid if not amoral.
What was Ryan thinking?
Simple. Ryan is not evil; he is a free-market Utopian.
To allow the invisible hand of the Market to work its Magic on the Health Care sector, government involvement must cease. If that means cutting off government funded aid to children and the disabled and phasing out Medicare, so be it. Even though his Phase out Plan punishes the weak, the sick, the elderly and the young, that is not his objective. His objective is implementing Ideology. He just doesn’t understand why the rest us can’t see why the benefits outweigh the costs (hint: because they don’t).
