One if by Land, Two if by Tour Bus

Quote of the Day

Powerline Blogger John Hinderaker reflecting on Sarah Palin’s inarticulate description of Paul Revere’s midnight ride……..to warn the British.

Left-wing outlets were delirious with glee: Sarah Palin! What an idiot! She thought Paul Revere rode to warn the British!

Let's just pause on that for a moment. Do these people seriously believe that Palin thought Revere was a British agent? That he risked his life to warn English troops--who were mostly in Boston, so why would he need to ride anywhere to warn them?--that John Hancock and Sam Adams were...asleep in their beds? That his capture by British soldiers, not to mention his subsequent enshrinement as a hero of the revolution, was a mistake, since he was only trying to be helpful to the English? Really? Really?

This reminds me of the time when a liberal told a joke to the effect that Dan Quayle said he wished he had brushed up on his Latin before visiting Latin America, and liberal news sources repeated the joke as fact. Some people are so far gone in partisan hate that they will believe just about anything, without reflecting on whether it makes any sense.

According to Blogger Hinderaker, Sarah was technically correct in so far as after being captured by the British, Revere told them what he had done. And while Seal Team 6 did not take this approach to their recent mission, Sarah’s description of Paul Revere’s ride, incoherent as it was, was at least partially (albeit accidentally) correct. Liberals, however, ignore this partial truth to pile on Poor Sarah, instead distorting her distorted words into a portrayal of Revere warning the British instead of the Americans. I admit it. We are Mean. But it is still quite funny to use Sarah’s incoherent description of Revere’s ride as yet another example of the detachment of self proclaimed Tea Party leaders to America’s founding.

Blogger Hinderaker’s tribal defense of poor Sarah is predictable. It was the bold text is what made me chuckle. Sure partisanship clouds judgment. Just look at all the Teabaggers that thought people would dig their plan to end Medicare and replace it with Ryancare Health Coupons. It turns out that folks don’t want to trade the long and customary cultural norm of guaranteed health care in old age for a new system that transfers risk to those who can afford to bear it the least. Funny thing that. Partisan blinders led a lot of GOP congressman to overlook this fact. If one is a conservative, you’d think he’d be more sensitive to the established customary norms of the community he represents. Too much Tea, I guess.

But the funny thing is the fact that Blogger Hinderaker, apparently blinded by partisan hate, is a global warming denier who thinks anthropogenic global warming is one Sean Hannity Foxnews special from being exposed as a hoax. Talk about partisan blinders.

The fact of the matter is that the established consensus of the scientists that study this field tell us that discharging increasing amounts of carbon and other greenhouse gasses into the atmosphere increases the atmosphere’s greenhouse effect. This leads to more energy and heat in the climate. This theory is not some vast conspiracy that only the wingnuts can see through. But if one is so far gone in partisan hate, they will believe just about anything, without reflecting on whether it makes any sense.

He's Probably got the hang of it by now. So give'em another chance. And with the Supreme Court and the good Lord on his side, why not give it a try. Write in Bush.
