The Palinization / Quaylification / Bushification of the GOP continues

It is rather remarkable that the GOP has been able to nominate folks for the highest office and second highest office in the land who don't know much. Meet the new frontrunner to be the GOP's standard bearer: Herman Cain - who gave this interview to PBS’s Judy Woodruff:

JUDY WOODRUFF: Do you view China as a potential military threat to the United States?

HERMAN CAIN: I do view China as a potential military threat to the United States.

JUDY WOODRUFF: And what could you do as president to head that off?

HERMAN CAIN: My China strategy is quite simply outgrow China. It gets back to economics. China has a $6 trillion economy and they’re growing at approximately 10 percent. We have a $14 trillion economy — much bigger — but we’re growing at an anemic 1.5, 1.6 percent. When we get our economy growing back at the rate of 5 or 6 percent that it has the ability to do, we will outgrow China.

And secondly, we already have superiority in terms of our military capability, and I plan to get away from making cutting our defense a priority and make investing in our military capability a priority, going back to my statement: peace through strength and clarity. So yes they’re a military threat. They’ve indicated that they’re trying to develop nuclear capability and they want to develop more aircraft carriers like we have. So yes, we have to consider them a military threat.

How does a presidential candidate not know that the Chi-Coms went nuclear in 1960s. It is more understandable that a GOP candidate (Perry, Bachmann) does not know that the Chinese have one diesel Carrier that they bought from the Soviet Commies (but no nuclear powered carriers). They believe in death panels and imaginary socialism. But on the nuclear question…..

When I saw this interview on Monday, in between handing out candy to trick or treaters, I kept waiting for the follow up question to Mr Cain. It could have gone like this:

WOODRUFF: I have heard politicians speaking about the threat posed by the Iranian Nuclear Program but I have not heard much about the threat of the Chinese Nuclear Program, could you compare and contrast the two programs and describe the threat that each nuclear program poses to the USA?

CAIN: It is simple, both Iran and China must be deterred from obtaining Nuclear Weapons. As President, I can promise the American people that I will, after listening to my advisors, do all that is necessary to prevent both Iran and China from developing a nuclea……

WOODRUFF(interrupting): Mr Cain, surely you realize the Chinese government has already built several nuclear missiles capable of striking the American Homeland. In fact they've had a nuclear capability since the 1960s.You don't mean....

CAIN: Like I way saying, my 9-9-9 plan would …………..

And the beat goes on. Why is ignorance rewarded so much in the GOTP?

I know why Quayle was placed on the ticket in 1988. It is part of the Southern Strategy. With the impact of racism diminishing as a driving factor in presidential elections, the Bush Sr., Campaign thought the best way to pump up their shrinking percentage of the white vote was go all in deep with white evangelicals. Quayle was the bridge way here. Sarah we all know about. Same with Bush Jr. Now we have Cain.

And with that, it is time to shut down the GOTP. It does not work anymore and should be forced into bankruptcy.

He's Probably got the hang of it by now. So give'em another chance. And with the Supreme Court and the good Lord on his side, why not give it a try. Write in Bush.
