Deep Thoughts from Powerline Blog

Liberals typically erupt in outrage if you suggest they don’t respect or understand the Constitution, let alone defend it. But then they let slip that in fact they really don’t respect or understand the Constitution, and would replace it in a heartbeat if they thought they could get away with it.

I'm sure that Liberals have proposed or supported amending the Constitution in the past. The 13th, 14th and 15th amendments were not perfect but you get what you can. The 19th amendment, (though it was supported by some conservatives as well) was also, much to Newt Gingrich's chagrin, a good thing. Women folk should be allowed to vote just like everyone else. So Liberals have favored amending the Constitution from time to time. Now 18 year-old can vote. That was another amendment to the constitution.

However when it comes to those wanting to do away with this portion of the constitution or that portion, one need look no further than today's movement conservatives - the hardest core of which are affectionately referred to as Wingnuts. Let's run down some of the parts of the Constitution that various and prominent wingers do not support:

13th outlawing slavery

14th on citizenship

16th on taxes

17th on voting for Senators

19th on Women Voting*

Add to this list of hated parts of the constitution these Proposed Re-writes

The Balanced Budget Amendment

Same Sex Marriage Amendment

Flag Appreciation Amendment

Abortion Ban Amendment

Various Repeal Amendments on Nullification

This is just what I can come up off the top of my head. There is no doubt that some liberal has proposed some crazy stuff too. But I am fairly sure that it stuff occurs on the edges as opposed to the GOTP where the craziness in MAINSTREAMED. Rick Perry has spouted some of this Bullshit before and he lead in the polls at one time.

Here's an Example: The second ranking GOTPer in the House of Representatives - Cantor - has spoken warmly about the Nullification Amendment. I am pretty sure that nullification is batshit crazy, but that did not stop Cantor from embracing the crazy.

*I believe this may be Newt Gingrich's position on the 19th amendment, but I have not verified it at this time.

He's Probably got the hang of it by now. So give'em another chance. And with the Supreme Court and the good Lord on his side, why not give it a try. Write in Bush.
