So, do I think the 2012 election is slipping away from conservatives, Republicans, and the American people? Yes, I do. This is a year in which it was incumbent on conservatives to pursue, soberly, the overriding goal of evicting Barack Obama from the White House. We didn’t do that; in fact, it wouldn’t be far off the mark to say that we made fools of ourselves by chasing one will o’ the wisp after another. I fear that in November, we will pay the price.

Regular readers know that I frequently castigate right wing opinion makers for misleading the unwashed teabagging masses with truly unhinged propaganda. The Poor Teabaggers in some ways are not unlike most folks - they have a hard time understanding how the world works. How do you figure out, as an example, how the health insurance market works in America when you have to spend to much time and energy doing your job and taking care of a family? The ordinary fella' does not have the time, the resources or the book learning to do it on his own. This is especially so when the Foxnews, the AM radio and the wingnet spends every waking hour bullshitting folks with nonsense about death panels and a government take over 1/6 of the economy. It is just all the much harder to make sense of things.

It is no wonder these people are, in the words of Blogger Hinderaker, making fools of themselves "by chasing will o' wisp after another." Now the GOTP looks to be stuck at choosing between Willard Milton Romney and Rick Santorum for President. This is all due to the simple reason that the tea drinking debt ceiling kamikazes scared every same Republican away from running this year. When your best and brightest are afraid of your Base voter, you have a problem - a big problem.

Now what came first - the chicken or the egg? The Crazy Rhetoric or the crazy voter? I am not sure, but I would posit that the GOTP Base would be less crazy if they were not constantly lied to by people like…. say…. Powerline Blogger Hinderaker. It is people like Hinderaker who compared Health Insurance reform to slavery, blame Obama for the Great Recession which started two years before he was elected, tell folks that Global warming is a hoax cooked up by tricksy scientist in order to install global socialism, etc, etc. If the poor dumb bastard wants to blame anyone for blowing the election, the authors of his blog would be a good place to start.
